THE NATIONAL TRAINING SYSTEMCertificate 111 in Children's Services is a part of a suite of packages of courses that provides a comprehensive package of training to meet the need of the Children's Services Industry up to AQF level 5.
COURSE STRUCTURE
This course has a nominal duration of 514 hours. This is undertaken as combination of class-based work on the job training and independent learning tasks. Students with existing competencies may apply to have these recognized. The course is structured to be completed over 1 year of part time study.
COMPETENCY STANDARDS
A competency standard comprises Elements. Each element is made up of a series of Performance Criteria. Learners are required to collect evidence from both on and off the job situations in order to be assessed as competent. The tutor will set assignments and you will undertake Work Placements to enable you to collect this evidence.
WORK PLACEMENT
Workplace skills will be assessed on the job by an assessor who will visit your workplace at pre-arranged times to observe you. Your workplace supervisor will assist in assessing your practical skills. On the job assessment records are a component of your overall assessment.
Students are expected to find their own Work Placements and are advised to seek this in long day childcare centres.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Students with Certificate 111 in Children's Services may find employment as trained level 2 childcare workers in:
- Long day childcare centres
- Occasional care centres
- Pre school & Kindergartens

A training package consists of a set of competency standards. These standards re grouped according to the requirement of the Health and Community Sector and reflect the specialist skills and knowledge needed in a specific field- in this instance Children's Services.
